K-12 Classroom Blogs

Mr. Langhorst’s 8th grade American history class had a interesting blog website. There blog was made based on a book called Guerilla Season. The students were to discuss the book via internet. The student’s names were hid to the public to protect the students. The author of the book even got in on the discussion. It was very successful and he does it every year now with his class. I like this idea because students can do this assignment while they are at home and it still keeps them engaged in class discussion. If I end up in a higher grade level class this is wonderful idea use.

The Westlake blog had several teachers listed with blogs. The teachers use their blogs to let the children know what is going on. The students and teacher can write back and forth to each other. I like this because the teacher and students can keep in touch even when they are away from school. I liked that several of the teachers were involved in the blogging system. I think it is a great way of keeping the students informed and they are able to get in touch with you other than in person or by phone.
